Privacy policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Plutos app (“Plutos”, “the app”, “we”) processes, why, and the choices you have. Plutos manages your personal finances and shared expenses, so your money data is sensitive by nature — we treat it that way and collect as little as possible.

Information you provide

To keep your ledger, Plutos stores the data you enter or import:

your account identifier and email address (used for sign-in)
your wallets (accounts, cash, shared budgets) and their balances
the expenses and income you record — amount, date, category, and any note or attachment you add
imported source data, such as a bank CSV or forwarded receipt, mirrored into wallet operations
the people you split expenses with and the shared balances between you

Your financial records are yours. Within a shared split, the people involved can see the shared expenses and the resulting balances — that is the point of splitting a bill. Nothing else is shared.

How your data is used

We use this data only to provide the app and the features built on it:

tracking expenses and showing where your money goes across your wallets
reconciling your operations into spending, transfers and refunds
calculating splits and netting shared balances down to who owes whom

Your data is transmitted over encrypted connections. It is not sold, and it is not used for advertising.

Data stored on your device

For fast entry — including offline use — Plutos caches your ledger on the device and stores app settings such as the selected theme. This local copy syncs with our servers when a connection is available.

Third parties

Plutos relies on infrastructure providers that process data only as needed to run the service, each under its own privacy terms — for account authentication, encrypted storage, and synchronising data between device and server. We do not integrate advertising or analytics SDKs that track you across apps.

Website analytics

This section is about plutos.app, the website you are reading — not the app. We measure how the site is used so we can see which pages are helpful and notice when something is broken. The measurement is carried out for us by Vercel Web Analytics, which also hosts the site.

It records the pages you open and the order you open them in, the site that referred you here, any campaign parameters in the link you followed, your approximate location at country level, your device type, operating system and browser, and which buttons and links you activate on the page, including whether you scroll past half and nine tenths of it.

No cookies are set, and nothing is stored on or read from your device for this purpose. Visitors are counted using a hash derived from the request and replaced every day, so we cannot recognise you across different days and cannot follow you to other websites. We build no profiles, and the data is never used for advertising. This is why the site shows no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a reliable, audience-appropriate website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You may object at any time under Art. 21 GDPR using the contact address below; sending a “Do Not Track” signal or using an ad blocker also prevents the measurement. The processing might take place in the United States, safeguarded by the EU Commission Standard Contractual Clauses and the provider’s certification under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Your rights

You can access, correct or delete your data at any time. Deleting your account removes your personal profile and ledger from our servers; shared expenses may remain visible to the other people in a split as part of their own records, in anonymised form. Children

Plutos is intended for adults managing their own money and is not directed at children.
