Welcome to the Plutos blog. Plutos exists because most money apps get one thing backwards: they treat you like a child who needs cheering on, or a suspect who needs scolding. You spent €40 on dinner. That’s not a moral event. It’s a fact, and you’d like it filed correctly.
This is where we’ll write about building the alternative.
What you’ll find here
We plan to write about three things:
Personal finance without the theatre. How to see where your money actually goes — across a bank account, some cash, and a shared budget or two — without maintaining a spreadsheet you quietly resent.
Building Plutos. Design and engineering decisions, like why import and reconciliation are kept strictly separate, and why every number in the app is set in a monospace typeface.
Splitting fairly. The quiet arithmetic of shared trips, flatshares, and group dinners — and how to end them with one number instead of a group-chat argument.
What we believe
We talk to adults. Plutos uses plain second person — “You’re €2,480 under budget this month” — and never first-person-plural pep talk. No “Let’s check in on your spending!” No confetti when you pay a bill.
No moralizing. We don’t label spending as good or bad. We don’t use guilt as a feature. The app’s job is to be accurate and to get out of the way.
Your data is yours. Categories you create, wallets you set up, people you split with — that’s your ledger, not our growth funnel.
A note on pace
We’d rather ship one correct release than a busy roadmap. Money software should be boring in the best sense: it adds up, every time.
Thanks for being here.
